Itâs nearing âthat time of the semesterâ again. The weatherâs getting colder and gloomier. Stress is visible on the face of every student. Anything with caffeine in it is flying off the shelves and out of the fridges at the Thomson convenience store. MidÂ-November is the beginning of the end-of-Âthe-Âsemester struggles, and the urge to give up and say âscrew itâ to all of your work is stronger than ever.
Well, Iâm here to say, âDonât give up.â Seriously, donât. Donât give up your mental health and sanity. Donât give up on sleep and square meals. Donât sacrifice yourself for an A instead of a B, or a B instead of a C. Donât sacrifice valuable, limited time with your family this Thanksgiving by locking yourself in your room for a week to write an entire paper.
Iâm not saying you should blow off your schoolwork. After all, tuition isnât cheap and youâre here to learn the knowledge and skills youâll hopefully need in your postÂ-grad career.
Iâm saying that sometimes you need to prioritize yourself and your health over squeezing in an extra hour of studying or writing a tenth draft of your paper. Like most things in life, preparing for exams is all about balance, and personal time needs to be part of that.
Basically, donât let your academic goals get in the way of everything else in life. You may be a college student, but youâre also a friend, a family member and a human. Remember that.
