The Delaware Community Market will be on the ballot for next yearā€™s off-campus food point program.

Junior Alex Dā€™Amore-Braver, a House of Thought resident, has been campaigning to get the Community Market on the off-campus food point list as his house project for this semester.

The Community Market, located on East William Street, sells local food and gives some proceeds to charities.

Dā€™Amore-Braver has been tabling in the Hamilton-Williams Campus Center to raise awareness for his goal.

ā€œItā€™s just been strategizing and laying down the groundwork,ā€ he said. ā€œMy goal is to make sure the Community Market makes it out of the nomination stage and actually on the food-point program.ā€

According to Dā€™Amore-Braver, the Wesleyan Council on Student Affairs (WCSA) recently voted to put the market on the ballot for next year. He said the project came from his interest in food issues.

ā€œIā€™ve read that people are getting away from the source of their food,ā€ he said. ā€œ…I would like it in general if people were eating more fresh food and supporting the local economy.ā€

Because the Community Market is about a mile from the school, Dā€™Amore-Braver said part of his project will include arranging transportation to and from the market, which he hopes will increase patronage from the community. He said he thinks many potential patrons ā€œare the people who arenā€™t aware of it and who havenā€™t been there.ā€

Freshman Mili Green said she didnā€™t know about the Community Market, but said she would vote to add it to the off-campus program.

ā€œThere are times when you need a real meal, you know?ā€ she said. ā€œIt would be nice to make it on my own without spending real money.ā€

Dā€™Amore-Braver said voting for the program will take place in the middle of April.
